Going Green: The Cryptobotanical Hypothesis

by Richelle Hawks
January 25, 2008

There are so many theories about UFOs and aliens. There's the rather straightforward extraterrestrial, nuts and bolts hypothesis that supposes the UFOs are tangible spacecraft, and the occupants within are sentient beings from another planet. Of course, there are countless theories, amendments, and even detailed mythologies within the standard ET hypothesis.

Then, there are the many interdimensional, socio-cultural, religious, hyperdimensional, quantum, etc. theories. There is no shortage of speculation. It seems every possible idea has been placed under the microscope of possibility, and every fathomable lens has been affixed, in trying to understand the phenomena.

In his book, The UFO Experience: A Scientific Inquiry J. Allen Hynek writes, "The part we ignore…may contain the clue to the whole subject." But what possible "part" of the ufological experience can have possibly remained ignored or mostly overlooked after all this time and exhaustive philosophizing? We have all kinds of UFO and alien theories revolving around lost civilizations, time travelers, evolved dinosaurs and sea mammals, tulpas, collective projections, hostile takeovers, demonic and angelic forces, and on and on.

We've been struggling for answers and clues while focusing on the entities, focusing on the craft, so those aspects have not been ignored. To taking Hynek's suggestion literally, it may be wise to see if there's an associated vine that silently and unimposingly weaves its way through all aspects of the UFO phenomenon; something ubiquitous in almost every narrative, on a large and/or small scale, as are the craft or the aliens. Something that is taken for granted yet undeniably present. I suggest there is: plant life.

The examples of botanical presence in the UFO phenomenon are overwhelming. UFOs are often seen in forests, and in fields. They are even seen collecting soil samples in these places and even in the cities as well. This idea of "collecting soil samples" is often used to convey the idea of high strangeness-for some reason, the idea that aliens would be interested in soil has struck us, and it has stuck. Even some of our canned cultural aphorisms about UFOs, such as "why haven't aliens landed on the white house lawn," and "little green men from Mars," include botanical notions.

The crop circle mystery is often associated with aliens and UFOs. Putting all theories of weather anomalies, plasma vortexes, mating hedgehogs, and all external explanations aside for a moment, we are left with the hard-to-ignore plant matter itself. Obviously the plants have not necessarily been overlooked in this case, as they have been investigated and studied. However, even within the observation that the nodes of the wheat shafts have been exploded as if from within, there is usually a question of external force. What if there's none; what if it's internal, or self-inflicted, through some yet-unknown or understood activity or power?

The crop circles do bring us to an area of plant life within the UFO mystery that has been explored: mushrooms. "Fairy circles" have a long history and rich lore, and some have speculated that they may have something to do with crop circles. In folklore, fairy circles are circular areas of altered grass or land in which mushrooms grow, and entities have been seen. The circles are indeed real, and have a scientific explanation involving fungi.

Mushroom lore and fairylore go hand in hand. The connection between mushroom legends and direct experience, (psychedelic and otherwise) and the UFO mythos is profound, and cannot be dismissed in a thought survey of the subject. In his book Supernatural, Graham Hancock lays out the case for this connection brilliantly. Traditional shamanic psychedelic experience induces a duplicate alien abduction scenario, and includes all the same features: discs in the sky, similar entities, probes, hybrid babies, and so forth.

In the book, Hancock even speculates that UFO craft may be some kind of evolved technological device used by entities to gain access into our dimension. The round disc shape itself, and oft-reported spinning motion seems to mirror folkloric accounts of fairies or entities seen making and moving together in their own circles, disappearing or appearing to passersby. Interestingly, the idea of spinning movement by discoid objects is obviously precedent in the motion of planets and solar systems, and we even the same aesthetic and mathematical elements to in our clock faces, to measure time.

And then there's Terence McKenna. His books The Archaic Revival and Food of the Gods are filled with pertinent insights and observations that may lend support to a cryptobotanical hypothesis. He even states, "…the mushroom told me it was an extraterrestrial." He also shares his wonder at the bizarre statement, unsure if it meant the actual fungi was originally from outer space, perhaps alluding to a panspermia theory, or if the mushroom was some kind of communicative device that, when ingested, provided the means to converse with an extraterrestrial somewhere on another planet.

What if we are to take the notion literally, but in a different way; what if the message is a key to a ufological Pandora's Box? What is a mushroom basically, insofar as science describes it? Fungi are neither plant nor animal. It's a thing unto itself, and fairly unclassifiable-an enigma in nature. It has even been recently postulated that fungi is more akin to animal life than plant life. That's pretty weird. Mushrooms exist in a liminal state (or perhaps more correctly, they are signified and designated as such by us) that might be expected; if they are a key, they might fit in a very strange lock, on a most bizarre door to a borderland.

And of course, there's the whole theory that we may have psychedelic mushrooms to thank for human consciousness itself. Hancock's book Supernatural really is a must-read for anyone wishing a comprehensive study and brilliant argument on the subject. In short, he argues the idea that the mysterious jump in culture-the advent of art, literature, ritual-may be attributed to the mind-altering and consciousness awakening effects of magic mushrooms. McKenna and others are also onboard with this idea. Interestingly, this same cultural awakening has been attributed to "alien intervention" and modulation and interference by many writers and theorists.

Taking the idea of the mushroom as an extraterrestrial literally, and the idea that mushrooms may posses some real form of consciousness, let's take a step into the abyss and put this together. The scientific phenomenon of mimicry is fascinating. From the Access Intelligence: The National Health Museum website: "Mimicry is one of several anti-predatory devices found in nature. Specifically it is a situation in which one species called the mimic resembles in color, form, and/or behavior another species called the model. In so doing, the mimic acquires some survival advantage."

This is the same process that allows butterflies to look like a large scary face with eyes, as well as spiders, caterpillars and the like to have fairly cartoonish-looking, Pokemon type faces on the rear ends and backs. Animals are not the only group to employ mimicry, plants do also.

What would a mushroom look like as a mimic of a human model? It may look like a classic gray alien. What if the mushroom, has by nature or will found a way out of necessity to interact with its predator and or ally-us? What if those crazy big bug eye alien optics are just black markings to look like eyes? The gray body is notoriously 'ineffective.' Their flimsy limbs seem to be almost irrelevant, as do their slim, stalk-like torsos. They do resemble a mushroom; many mushrooms have a more conical shaped cap, almost identical to the classic gray alien face, albeit upside down.

For the sake of speculation in this article, let's assume the Gaia Hypothesis-the notion that the earth itself is a single living organism-- and also McKenna's suggestion that mushrooms and plant life in general is minded, and that there is some sort of real oversoul or botanical collective consciousness. So, if mushrooms have a consciousness, they may be attempting to communicate with us directly, sporting a humanoid form that we can try to relate to. And with this idea of mimicry, there's a precedence in nature, and something that can be described and measured, accounted for in science. We don't necessarily have to stretch our imaginations to include a 'magical' or intangible, abstract idea to explain it.

The Strange History of Saint Valentine's Day

Dirk Vander Ploeg
February 9, 2007

At least three different Saint Valentines, all of them martyrs, are mentioned in the early martyrologies under date of 14 February.

One is described as a priest at Rome, another as bishop of Interamna (modern Terni), and these two seem both to have suffered in the second half of the third century and to have been buried on the Flaminian Way, but at different distances from the city.

In William of Malmesbury's time what was known to the ancients as the Flaminian Gate of Rome and is now the Porta del Popolo, was called the Gate of St. Valentine. The name seems to have been taken from a small church dedicated to the saint which was in the immediate neighborhood. Of both these St. Valentines some sort of Acta are preserved but they are of relatively late date and of no historical value. Of the third Saint Valentine, who suffered in Africa with a number of companions, nothing further is known.

Valentine's Day started in the time of the Roman Empire. In ancient Rome, February 14th was a holiday to honour Juno. Juno was the Queen of the Roman Gods and Goddesses. The Romans also knew her as the Goddess of women and marriage. The following day, February 15th, began the Feast of Lupercalia.

The lives of young boys and girls were strictly separate. However, one of the customs of the young people was name drawing. On the eve of the festival of Lupercalia the names of Roman girls were written on slips of paper and placed into jars. Each young man would draw a girl's name from the jar and would then be partners for the duration of the festival with the girl whom he chose. Sometimes the pairing of the children lasted an entire year, and often, they would fall in love and would later marry.

Under the rule of Emperor Claudius II Rome was involved in many bloody and unpopular campaigns. Claudius the Cruel was having a difficult time getting soldiers to join his military leagues. He believed that the reason was that roman men did not want to leave their loves or families. As a result, Claudius cancelled all marriages and engagements in Rome. The good Saint Valentine was a priest at Rome in the days of Claudius II. He and Saint Marius aided the Christian martyrs and secretly married couples, and for this kind deed Saint Valentine was apprehended and dragged before the Prefect of Rome, who condemned him to be beaten to death with clubs and to have his head cut off. He suffered martyrdom on the 14th day of February, about the year 270. At that time it was the custom in Rome, a very ancient custom, indeed, to celebrate in the month of February the Lupercalia, feasts in honour of a heathen god. On these occasions, amidst a variety of pagan ceremonies, the names of young women were placed in a box, from which they were drawn by the men as chance directed.

The pastors of the early Christian Church in Rome endeavoured to do away with the pagan element in these feasts by substituting the names of saints for those of maidens. And as the Lupercalia began about the middle of February, the pastors appear to have chosen Saint Valentine's Day for the celebration of this new feaSt. So it seems that the custom of young men choosing maidens for valentines, or saints as patrons for the coming year, arose in this way.

Acordo Ortográfico da Língua Portuguesa

Fevreiro 2008

So it appears that Arctic ice isn't vanishing after all

By Christopher Booker
04/02/2008

There was some coverage of the chaos caused in central and southern China by their heaviest snowfalls for decades - but little attention was paid to the snow that last week carpeted Jerusalem, Damascus and Amman, none of them exactly used to Dickensian Christmas card weather.

Similarly, Saudis last month expressed amazement at their heaviest snow for many years, in Afghanistan snow and freezing weather killed 120 people and large parts of the United States and Canada have been swept by unusually fierce blizzards.
If the northern hemisphere's chilliest winter in a long time was bad news for the propagandists of global warming, they also had to face serious questions about some of the most iconic images used to support the claims that the world is hotting up towards disaster.

DNA says Neanderthals were redheads

Agençe France-Presse
26 October 2007

Some of our prehistoric Neanderthal relatives probably had red hair and fair complexions, much like modern-day people of Celtic origin.

The finding comes from the first such analysis of DNA evidence taken from Neanderthal fossils recovered from El Sidron in northern Spain and Monti Lessini, Italy.

An analysis of the DNA revealed the ancient hominids carried a mutation in the MC1R gene that codes for a protein involved in the production of melanin – a substance that gives skin its colour and also protects it against ultraviolet light.

Ginger mutation
In modern humans, primarily of European descent, mutations in the MC1R gene are thought to be responsible for red hair and pale skin by dampening the activity of the protein.

The mutation observed in the Neanderthal genes was different from the one documented in humans, but when scientists inserted the Neanderthal gene into cells in a test tube, it seemed to have the same effect on melatonin production as the modern human genes, according to the study published in the U.S. journal Science.

The genetic analysis doesn't seal the deal, but since the fossil record of Neanderthals does not include any samples of skin or hair, it is the best guide available, said Michael Hofreiter, a palaeogeneticist at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany.
Hofreiter said the number of red-headed Neanderthals was probably pretty small, possibly just one per cent of the population and might have popped up in any part of Europe or Asia that the ancient hominids had settled.

Vitamin D link

The news did not come as a surprise to one leading scholar of Neanderthal evolution and biology.
"The stereotype of primitive peoples is that they are dark skinned, but some palaeontologists have been speculating for 20 years that some Neanderthals must have been pale skinned because they lived in northern Europe," said Erik Trinkaus, a professor of anthropology at Washington University in St Louis, Missouri. "Light skin is adaptive at higher altitudes because it allows more UVB radiation to penetrate the skin and that promotes Vitamin D synthesis."

Neanderthals, whose ancestors diverged from that of modern humans about 300,000 years ago, colonised Europe and parts of Asia, dominating Europe until about 30,000 years ago.

The study suggests that the genes that confer pale skin and red hair evolved separately in humans and our closest extinct relatives.

DNA: "Impossible" Telepathic Properties

February 06, 2008

DNA Found to Have "Impossible" Telepathic Properties

DNA has been found to have a bizarre ability to put itself together, even at a distance, when according to known science it shouldn't be able to. Explanation: None, at least not yet.

Scientists are reporting evidence that contrary to our current beliefs about what is possible, intact double-stranded DNA has the “amazing” ability to recognize similarities in other DNA strands from a distance. Somehow they are able to identify one another, and the tiny bits of genetic material tend to congregate with similar DNA. The recognition of similar sequences in DNA’s chemical subunits, occurs in a way unrecognized by science. There is no known reason why the DNA is able to combine the way it does, and from a current theoretical standpoint this feat should be chemically impossible.

Even so, the research published in ACS’ Journal of Physical Chemistry B, shows very clearly that homology recognition between sequences of several hundred nucleotides occurs without physical contact or presence of proteins. Double helixes of DNA can recognize matching molecules from a distance and then gather together, all seemingly without help from any other molecules or chemical signals.

In the study, scientists observed the behavior of fluorescently tagged DNA strands placed in water that contained no proteins or other material that could interfere with the experiment. Strands with identical nucleotide sequences were about twice as likely to gather together as DNA strands with different sequences. No one knows how individual DNA strands could possibly be communicating in this way, yet somehow they do. The “telepathic” effect is a source of wonder and amazement for scientists.

“Amazingly, the forces responsible for the sequence recognition can reach across more than one nanometer of water separating the surfaces of the nearest neighbor DNA,” said the authors Geoff S. Baldwin, Sergey Leikin, John M. Seddon, and Alexei A. Kornyshev and colleagues.

This recognition effect may help increase the accuracy and efficiency of the homologous recombination of genes, which is a process responsible for DNA repair, evolution, and genetic diversity. The new findings may also shed light on ways to avoid recombination errors, which are factors in cancer, aging, and other health issues.

Shamanism: The Oldest Religion in the World

By Jan Irvin

Shamanism:
The Oldest Religion in the World,
The Religion of Experience

"Religion is a defense against a religious experience"

- Carl G. Jung

Before I begin, I'd like to clear up some Constitutional rights issues for those working for any government agencies etc. Freedom of Religion is the law. Using the "WAR ON DRUGS" against any information presented in this site is in violation of our Constitutional civil liberties of Freedom of Religion and free speech, which you've sworn to uphold.

Article the third [Amendment I]

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

The Constitution is the SUPREME LAW OF THE LAND.
(Maritime law is illegal under sovereignty!)

With that said, we may now continue.

Shamanism

Shamanism is the world's oldest religion. Shamanism is the religion of EXPERIENCE.

I'd like to start by explaining some of the terminology used in this article. Let me point out here that some researchers consider that because the word 'shaman' was used in ancient times exclusively to describe the Amanita muscaria mushroom using 'shaman' of the Norse, Siberian, and Ostiak peoples that it only applies to them. On this page I will use the generic definition of shamanism, which is not a religion, but "a set of techniques with the principle technique being the use of psychedelic/entheogenic plant substances." With this definition we can include the curanderos, the ayahuasceros, the peyoteros, and any of the many 'psychedelic' using peoples of the world. I'd also like to give the definition of entheogen - which from Latin we take (en), meaning 'in' or 'within', (theo) meaning 'god', and (gen) meaning 'to generate', bringing us 'entheogen' "to generate the god within." And psychedelic - from Latin (psyche) meaning 'mind', and (delos) meaning 'to make clear' or 'visible', bringing us 'psychedelic,' "to make the mind clear or visible."

Before Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, or any other, there was shamanism. Shamanism is quite literally the foundation, or beginning roots of most, if not all other religions. Some may argue that animism is the worlds oldest religion, but I will argue that humanoid man, in our search of food, came across psychedelic plants and drugs and utilized them, as the evidence shows. I believe that the use of these substances, and especially Psilocybe mushrooms may have been the catalyst for the explosion in human brain size over 1,000,000 years ago. Read Terence McKenna's Food of the Gods, or download and listen to Terence Mckenna's - Food of the Gods on audio now.

Universo é um Holograma

2007

The Body's Natural Detox

By Bill Nadraszky

One of the reasons that many people choose body detox diets is because they think that it will actually help them and their bodies fight off infections, strengthen their immune systems, as well as give them a whole host of other benefits. Even though it's true that these are some of the possibilities of a detox diet and process, there is one element of the human body that these individuals are underestimating, and that is the organs of the human body themselves.

For starters, the body does have a series of natural line of defenses that are used in fighting off pathogens, foreign agents, and warding off diseases. This is called the immune system and it is strengthened by the other parts of the body when we are eating healthy foods, exercising properly, and doing all of the activities that we should be engaging in. However, many advocates of the detox diet claim that our body's immune system will be strengthened even more. If this is so then these individuals should continue to explain how people are just as healthy without the detox diet.

On the other hand, one must consider the fact that the body does have a natural detox process in order to cleanse the body. Indeed, there are various recipes for detox liquids and juices, however, let's examine all that the body does first. We have already reviewed what the immune system does, so let's look at the colon and kidneys next. The colon and kidneys are two very important organs in our body. The main purpose of these two organs is to excrete wastes from the body. In fact, the kidney is so smart that it is able to filter out all of the good blood for the wastes that it intends to excrete when it's time for the body to get rid of them. In the same way, though, the colon is also very instrumental in helping carrying out the same processes throughout the body.

When one considers that the body has a natural detox process throughout its system then it is also important to consider why one would even want to engage in a detox diet. For example, some parts of the detox diet include having an individual drink gallons upon gallons of water each day that they are undergoing the diet. This may be very useful for cleansing the inside of the body, but think about the dangers of also consuming too much water in one day. The kidneys and other organs that are a part of the body's excretion systems are only able to work so hard and if they are overloaded then this certainly is not good for the body!

In other words, one must consider the positive affects of actually having a healthy diet and making themselves exercise regularly. There are many benefits to eating everything that the Food and Drug Administration says that is healthful to eat. However, the FDA also has not stated that a body detox process is good for the body, rather, they recommend getting the proper vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that are needed each day. All in all, a detox process may be just the diet that some people may need to get themselves on the right track toward a healthier lifestyle, but it certainly is not the be-all-end-all in the health world!

How to Be His Best Sex Ever

by Tracey Cox

Want to be the best lover your guy has ever had? It's simple. All you need to do is understand the male sexual psyche... and not judge him for it.

I recently attended an art exhibition in London that traced the representation of sex in art through the ages. Part of the exhibition included a series of photographs that aimed to capture the essence of various couples' relationships and sex lives. The images were both graphic and private: intensely tender moments and raw sexual moments. The first series was based on a straight couple. The second was based on a male homosexual couple.

What struck me immediately was the difference in their sex lives. The gay guys didn't just appear to have more sex than the straight couple—their sex life also had extraordinary variety:
different positions, locations, props... tender sex and wild sex. Their sex life beat the straight couple's sex life hands down. Why? Because it's two men. A gay guy knows his partner won't judge him because two men think of sex in the same way: Neither one sees anything wrong in what they're doing! The male sex drive is more primitive than the female sex drive, so two men together feel totally secure in letting loose. The lesson to be learned as a straight girl? The only thing standing in the way of you having a tender, wild, wonderful, exciting sex life is your attitude.

In today's society, there's a very clear line drawn between "normal" and "naughty." This seems to be the definition: If everyone does it, no matter what "it" is, "it" is "normal." If only a few people do it, no matter what "it" is, "it" is not "normal."

Rubbish! Take a leaf out of the homosexual handbook and refuse to live by such archaic rules. The next time your partner suggests something unusual, fight your knee-jerk reaction to say no. Consider why you want to reject it: Is it because it's just something you don't hear other people say they're doing? Is that what scares you? If so, then ask yourself if trying his suggestion will hurt either one of you physically or emotionally: Is there any danger? If not, then what's the problem? Be one of the few women to embrace this concept and you'll not only be the best lover he's ever had, you'll probably be the best he ever will have.be the best he ever will have.

Men Are Visual: Excite His EyesMen's sexual arousal is dependent on what they see, which makes visual excitement his number one turn-on. And the evidence is in the emails I get from male readers: "Why won't she... watch porn/shave her pubic hair/wear sexy clothes/leave her shoes on/watch us having sex in a mirror/masturbate for me/go out without underwear on?" He needs electric shocks to his penis. Give him something he's not used to seeing or doing and you'll make his day.

Lose the "I Should Be Enough for Him" Mindset

Men like trying new things. So when your guy asks for something new in bed, all it means is that he wants to try something new. Is that how most women interpret it? Heck no! Being the super-sleuths of relationships, ahem, we don't take anything at face value; instead we dive deep below the surface searching for a murkier, more sinister reason. And the conclusion we generally come to is this: "If he wants something new in bed, it must mean he's unhappy with the sex he's having" or "Why does he need all these props/fantasies/porn DVDs when he's got me?" Both of these reactions are overreactions, and, more often than not, neither one is true. You don't look at him oddly if he orders something other than a burger for lunch, do you? Or a glass of red wine instead of a beer? Humans need variety. You need variety. Instead of feeling intimidated by it, embrace it.

No, You Won't Look Fat
There's another reason why we're not rushing to pull on that French maid outfit or wear the tiny underwear he bought us. It's the embarrassment factor: We're scared we'll look fat or feel ridiculous. In fact, it's the main reason women say they're not more adventurous in bed. It's not that we don't have a naughty streak; it's just that our self-consciousness over powers it. But, if you're wearing a French maid outfit, odds are, he's not looking at you as a whole, not at your "problem" areas (he probably doesn't even think you have any problem areas).

Explore New, Uncharted Territory
I know it's a delicate topic, but anal play is getting more and more popular and you need to know about it. Why? Because if you get it right, he'll have the most powerful orgasm he's ever had. (Yes, really.) Having said that, his bottom is a hugely private zone, and you'll need permission to enter. How? Either ask outright or read body language—ideally both. Instigate proceedings by stroking the perineum, the smooth area between the anus and testes. Then use three fingers to massage it firmly. Let your fingers casually brush against his anus and see how he reacts.

If he pulls away or clenches his bottom together, he's either not interested or nervous (quite possibly both). If he lifts his bottom or presses against your hand, it's a pretty good indication that he'd like you to continue. Keep stroking the opening until he's relaxed again, then insert the tip of a finger into his rectum (having first applied some lubricant you left on the nightstand).
Hold still for a moment or two, then try circling or moving your finger gently in and out. Check that everything's fine (just say, "Okay?') before pushing your finger further inside. Once you've gently explored how deep and what sort of movement he likes, add it to oral sex or when you're masturbating him with your hands, just before he's about to orgasm.

Ban the Bed
Yes, you've heard it before: Sex in the bedroom is boring blah blah blah. So... why don't you stop having sex there then? Knowing you should be having sex in places other than the bedroom won't turn you into a better lover unless you do it. Have a quickie in the bathroom at parties or in the lavatory on an airplane. Let your hand stray into his lap in the movie theatre.
Give him a very naughty, long, wet kiss in the kitchen at his parents' (though not while his Mum's doing the dishes). Pounce on him in your living room, dining room, spare room. Do anything beyond rolling over once at the end of the day, stifling a yawn and making a half-hearted attempt at fondling him.
Don't miss out on any fun!

Lilith and UFOs

by Stephen Yulish PhD
November 30, 2007

Earlier this week, I sat at my computer and wondered what I would or could write next for UFO Digest. Every time I feel that I have nothing left to write about, the Lord tells me differently. The Holy Spirit whispered in my ear Lilith and UFOs.

I know this may seem a little strange to some of you, but I really do not write anything unless the Lord tells me to do so and then tells what to write about. For most of my adult life, I wrote what I wanted to write about and it got me nowhere but messed up. This time, though, I was a little hesitant not only because I was not sure where this would go but also because I can barely see at this time. My MS has flared up and I am now burdened at this time with blurred vision, double vision, vertigo and increased weakness along with my persistent inability to walk easily. Thank god I now have Jesus to hold onto I tried to envision, no pun intended, how I could talk about Lilith and UFOs in one article. I knew of both individually but together?

Then on Wednesday, I read Mary Alice Bennett's article on UFOs over Tucson in UFO Digest and I began to see the connection. Mary spoke of 22nd and Alvernon, Reid Park and other places in Tucson that I knew well because I had been a Professor there at the University of Arizona for many years. Then she spoke of a recently departed friend Dana Redfield. a UFO author, who LSO had been interested in Kabbalah, and bingo, I had my connection. Who did I know that also combined an interest in UFOs with an interest in Jewish mysticism (Kabbalah) and particularly in the archetype Lilith? The answer was obviously me. God wanted me to discuss this relationship because I had a unique and intimate past knowledge of both coupled now with the addition of the Holy Spirit and my discovery of the true meaning of life and of death from my revelation of Jesus Christ.

While I was a Professor at the University of Arizona in Tucson thirty years ago, I had maintained my lifelong interest in UFOs. I visited a UFO group there that said that they seven were affiliated with J.Allen Hynek. I also wrote a novel, "The Other World", that was a Gnostic journey into the unconscious, actually the collective unconscious, of all mankind which included Adam, Eve, Lilith and Samael. This bounced around New York for years but was never picked up (thank God). I did read from it at a loft in Greenwich Village to a bunch of "creative artists" like me though. I thought that was really cool at the time. Several years later I wrote an article "Adam: Male, Female or Both" which was published by Anima, a feminist, New Age publication. I spoke not only of what I thought was the androgynous nature of Adam in the Bible but also of the supposed androgynous nature of God. I also spoke in detail of Lilith. One of my Christian grad students nearly had a cow when I talked about it in class. I loved to watch her squirm.

I also taught a grad course "Alternate Conceptions of Reality". I was truly New Age before it was fashionable to be New Age!

Years later, when I worked for the Jewish National Fund and the Jewish Federation of Phoenix, I read the Zohar, the bible of Jewish mysticism, and discussed Kabbalah with several Rabbis in town. I even channeled drawings from the yenne velt (the other world in Yiddish) and showed them to my Rabbi friends who loved them. Several were later published in the journal DreamWorks.

I also encountered several women who were Lilith archetypes and seduced me with their wicked ways. Been there and done all of the above. Who better to tell you about the dangers of Lilith and UFOs?

The Global Brain

Fevreiro 2008

Based on the themes in the book The Global Brain, this moving audio-visual presentation explores the idea that the Earth is an integrated, self-regulating living organism and asks what function humanity might have for this planetary being.

It suggests that we stand on the threshold of a major leap in evolution, as significant as the emergence of life itself, and the essence of this leap is inner spiritual evolution. Moreover, Peter Russell maintains that it is only through such a shift in consciousness that we will be able to manage successfully the global crisis now facing us.

Using a rich variety of visual images and specially generated graphics, this award-winning video presents an inspiring and optimistic vision of humanity's future in a dynamic and captivating form. Praised by educators and politicians, and used by many international corporations, "The Global Brain video is compelling, challenging and above all timely."

Massive volcano beneath Antarctic ice

Agence France-Presse
Monday, 21 January 2008

A powerful volcano erupted under the icesheet of Antarctica around 2,000 years ago and it might still be active today, a finding which raises questions about ice loss from the white continent.

The explosive event – rated "severe" to "cataclysmic" on an international scale of volcanic force – punched a massive breach in the icesheet and spat out a plume some 12 kilometres into the sky, said British scientists behind the find.

Occasional volcanism
Most of Antarctica is seismically stable. But its western part lies on a rift in Earth's crust that gives rise to occasional volcanism and geothermal heat, occurring on the Antarctic coastal margins.
This is the first evidence for an eruption under the ice sheet itself – a slab of frozen water, hundreds of metres thick in places, that holds most of the world's stock of fresh water.
Reporting in the journal Nature Geoscience this week, the investigators from the British Antarctic Survey (BAS), In Cambridge, England, describe the finding as "unique."
It extends the range of known volcanism in Antarctica by some 500 km and raises the question whether this or other sub-glacial volcanoes may have melted so much ice that global sea levels were affected, they said.
The volcano, located in the Hudson Mountains, blew around 207 BC, give or take 240 years, according to their paper.
Anomalous radar readings
Evidence for this comes from a British-American airborne geophysical survey completed between 2004 and 2005. This used radar to delve deep under the ice sheet to map the terrain beneath. The team spotted anomalous radar reflections over 23,000 square kilometres - an area bigger than Wales.
They interpret this signal as being a thick layer of ash, rock and glass, formed from fused silica, that the volcano spewed out in its fury.
The amount of material – 0.31 cubic kilometres – indicates an eruption of between three and four on a yardstick called the Volcanic Explosive Index (VEI).
By comparison, the eruption of Mount St. Helens in 1980, which was greater, rates a VEI of five, and that of Mount Pinatubo in 1991 is a VEI of six.
Melting ice
"We believe this was the biggest eruption in Antarctica during the last 10,000 years," said lead author Hugh Corr. "It blew a substantial hole in the icesheet and generated a plume of ash and gas that rose around 12 km into the air."
The eruption occurred close to the massive Pine Island Glacier, an area where movement of glacial ice towards the sea has been accelerating alarmingly in recent decades.
"It may be possible that heat from the volcano has caused some of that acceleration," said co-author David Vaughan, who stresses though that global warming is by far still the most likely culprit.
Volcanic heat "cannot explain the more widespread thinning of West Antarctic glaciers that together are contributing nearly 0.2mm (0.008 of an inch) per year to sea-level rise," he adds.
"This wider change most probably has its origin in warming ocean waters."

Natural Remedies for a Hangover

by Cindy Amorin

Symptoms of a Hangover,
Causes of Hangover Symptoms &
Natural Remedies for a Hangover

Symptoms of a hangover...

The music was great, the dancing was fun, and the drinks were abundant and superb, but what about that next day thumbing hangover?

The symptoms of a hangover include:

* Thirst
* Fatigue
* Shakiness and tremors
* Headaches
* Muscle aches
* Sensitivity to light and noise
* Dizziness or as if the room is spinning
* Nausea and vomiting
* Stomach pain
* Sweating
* Decreased quantity and quality of sleep
* Difficulty concentrating
* Redness of the eyes
* Rapid heartbeat
* Mood disturbances, especially anxiety, irritability, and depression

Side Note: The symptoms of a hangover differ for each individual.

Indeed, most everyone is aware that a hangover is caused by drinking too much alcohol. However, for some people, having one alcoholic drink is enough to trigger a hangover, while others may drink heavily and entirely escape the nasty effects of a hangover. In general, most people who drink to the point of intoxication will experience a hangover the next day.

What causes symptoms of a hangover?

There are various factors that may contribute to hangover severity such as:

Alcohol increases urination. Needless to say, urinating more than usual can lead to dehydration. Dehydration from excessive urination is what causes thirst. In addition, dehydration is often characterized by dizziness and lightheadedness.

Alcohol can irritate the lining of the stomach, increases stomach acid production and delays stomach emptying, which can cause nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

Alcohol can cause a lack of refreshing sleep, which, in turn, may leave you groggy and fatigued.

Alcohol can cause blood sugar regulation disturbance. More specifically, alcohol can cause your blood sugar to fall too low and, as such, you may experience fatigue, weakness, shakiness and mood changes.

Alcohol dilates blood vessels, which can lead to headaches.

Alcoholic beverages contain alcohol by-products called congeners that seem to increase the severity of a hangover. Congeners are toxic impurities that can have a great impact in adding to your woes. Clear liquors such as gin and vodka have fewer congeners, whereas dark liquors, such as brandy and whiskey have larger amounts. Champagne is also a notorious cause of hangovers as well as some sweet wines.

Lastly, acetaldehyde, a chemical created when the body processes alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor that causes hangover symptoms.

In a nutshell, experiencing hangover symptoms is nature's way of letting you know that as far as your body is concerned, alcohol is a poison.

Cures for a hangover...

The only real cure for a hangover is time. Your body needs time to process the toxins out of your system. But there are several natural remedies that may ease the symptoms of a hangover. However, keep in mind that what works for one person may not for another, so choose your own weapon as your hangover symptoms buster.

Natural remedies for a hangover...

The following may ease symptoms of a hangover:

Water - Drink lots of water throughout the day to rehydrate your body. Hangover discomforts arise partially from dehydration.

Banana milkshake - Replace lost nutrients, such as magnesium and potassium, with a stimulating banana milkshake (made from a half a glass of milk and one large ripe banana) sweetened with honey (two tablespoons). The honey raises blood sugar levels, which is lowered by excessive alcohol intake and the bananas are rich in important electrolytes, magnesium and potassium, which are severely depleted during heavy drinking. Milk soothes the stomach and rehydrates the system.

Fruit Juices - Nutritionists recommend fruit juices diluted with water or seltzer and consumed at two times the volume of the amount of alcohol you have drunk. It is said that fruit juices help the body to burn alcohol.

Vitamins - Several experts recommend taking a B-complex vitamin supplement, which helps to replace the B-vitamins lost while drinking.

Liver Detoxifying Herbs- The herbs dandelion and milk thistle have been used to aid detoxification of the liver and blood.

Nausea Helpers - Crackers and honey may ease nausea. Ginger tea is also used to counter nausea. To make tea use 1 cup of boiling water, add 1 tsp of dried ginger or 2 tsp of grated fresh ginger. Remove from the heat and steep in a covered pan for 10 minutes.

Headache Busters - White willow bark contains a natural form of salicylate, the active ingredient in aspirin and, as such, it may soothe a hangover headache. Drink hot as a tea -- made with 1 cup water simmered with 2 tsp bark in a covered pan for 10 minutes -- or chew on the bark.

When to seek medical help?

Call your physician if you are concerned that you have developed or are at risk of developing a dependency on alcohol -- or you can't control you're drinking.

Final note ....

We strongly recommend that if you do drink alcohol, you do so with moderation and caution. In addition, because of alcohol's effects on driving ability, never drive after drinking.

Obesity's Roots May Be in the Brain

MD Medical News
2008-02-06
Brain Differences Seen in Obesity-Prone Rats May Be Linked to Fullness Hormone Leptin
Obesity isn't just about eating habits; it may also have genetic roots in the brain. New research on obesity shows brain differences between rats that are genetically prone to becoming obese and rats without that obesity tendency. The differences are in part of the hypothalamus, which is a brain region that's involved in appetite and hunger. In rats that are genetically prone to obesity, certain brain cells in the hypothalamus don't grow as much and are less sensitive to the fullness hormone leptin, compared with other rats. Those patterns may gear those rats toward obesity, note the researchers, who included Sebastien Bouret, PhD, of the University of Southern California.
"It seems [in the case of these rats] that appetite and obesity are built into the brain," Bouret says in a news release.
That may mean that those rats would have to work harder not to become obese, because their brains might not get the "I'm full, stop eating" signal from their bodies. But that doesn't mean that obesity is a done deal for those rats.
Bouret's team didn't put the rats on running wheels or make them diet to see if that would counter their obesity inclination. And the findings don't mean that obesity is just about the brain or genes. Behavior counts, too.
"It is increasingly accepted that obesity results from a combination of genetic and environmental factors," Bouret and colleagues write in February's edition of Cell Metabolism.

Exploding black holes could expose hidden dimensions

Ker Than
05 February 2008

Cosmic flares shot from exploding black holes could provide long-sought proof of extra spatial dimensions, new calculations suggest.

Theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking predicted that black holes evaporate through a quantum process known as "Hawking evaporation" and can explode in brief bursts of energy before vanishing completely.

Only mini-black holes roughly as massive as an asteroid or smaller would be able to evaporate completely within the lifetime of the universe. And such tiny black holes may have been created in large numbers within 1 second of the big bang, as elementary particles clumped together at extreme energies.

Now, researchers led by Michael Kavic of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, US, say the evaporation of such "primordial" black holes could emit detectable radiation – if the universe contains additional dimensions beyond the familiar three of space and one of time. Such extra dimensions are predicted in some theories that try to unify gravity and quantum mechanics, such as string theory.

In the presence of extra dimensions, black holes would wrap around these extra dimensions to form "black strings." "You can envision this as a rubber band wrapped around a fire hose," Kavic told New Scientist. "As the black hole evaporates, it eventually becomes too small to wrap the extra dimension."

Unique pulse

He and colleagues predict that when a black string snaps, it will expose the extra dimension by creating a pulse of radiation with a unique electromagnetic signature. "We would know them if we saw them," Kavic told New Scientist.

By analysing the frequency of the pulse, scientists could calculate the size of the extra dimension, which could lend insight into which cosmological model best describes the universe. "The size of the black string is directly related to the size of the extra dimension at the time of the explosion," Kavic says.

The team says the light pulses could be detected by radio telescopes capable of scanning the entire sky in one sweep, such as Virginia Tech's Eight-meter-wavelength Transient Array.

"Traditional radio telescopes only focus on a very small part of the sky at any one time," Kavic said. "This means that they could easily have missed these kinds of pulses."

Good timing

The new test comes at an opportune time, says Charles Keeton, an astronomer at Rutgers University in New Jersey, US: "Our ability to observe exploding black holes is limited only by the sensitivity of our radio telescopes, and that is getting better."

But while much theoretical work has been done on primordial black holes and extra dimensions, their existence remains unproven.

"The big question is whether such black holes are produced in the first place," says Avi Loeb of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Massachusetts, US. "In principle, it's possible to make such black holes, but in the standard model of cosmology, it is not natural."

"There are a lot of layers here of nonstandard assumptions," Loeb told New Scientist. "If nothing could be observed in this context, then it would not surprise me."

While definitely a gamble, the payoffs from such a search would be enormous, Kavic argues. The successful detection of the kind of black hole explosion the team predicts would confirm not only the existence of extra dimensions, but also of primordial black holes and Hawking evaporation.

"All three of these are quantum gravitational phenomena [and] would drastically alter our view of space-time and the fundamental nature of our universe," Kavic says.

The team has submitted the study to Physical Review Letters.

NASA Photos Reveal Mercury Is Shrinking

By Seth Borenstein
February 01, 2008

WASHINGTON (AP) - The first pictures from the unseen side of Mercury reveal the wrinkles of a shrinking, aging planet with scars from volcanic eruptions and a birthmark shaped like a spider.

Some of the 1,213 photos taken by NASA's Messenger probe and unveiled Wednesday help support the case that ancient volcanoes dot Mercury and that it is shrinking as it gets older, forming wrinkle-like ridges. But other images are surprising and puzzling.
The spidery shape captured in a photo is "unlike anything we've seen anywhere in the solar system," said mission chief scientist Sean Solomon of the Carnegie Institution of Washington. The image shows what looks like a large crater with faint lines radiating out from it.
Mercury, the closest planet to the sun, has often been compared to Earth's dull black-and-white moon. But the new photos, which reveal parts of Mercury never seen, show the tiny planet is more colorful and once had volcanic activity.

The last time a NASA spacecraft went to Mercury was Mariner 10 in 1975. It took pictures of just 45 percent of the planet.
Messenger, which will do a couple more flybys of the planet before going into a long-term orbit, already has taken pictures of another 30 percent of Mercury, Prockter said. The rest will be seen eventually.
Planetary scientist Robert Strom, who was part of both the Mariner 10 and Messenger teams, said, "This is a whole new planet we're looking at."
And Prockter noted "there are some features we haven't been able to explain yet."
Example No. 1 is what scientists are calling "the spider." It is in the middle of a basin formed billions of years ago when space junk bombarded an infant Mercury.
Mariner had only seen part of the crater. When Messenger took a look with sharper cameras and a better angle, it photographed this odd central plateau jutting up, about half a mile high with dozens of tiny ridges radiating out.
It is as if "something is pushed up," said MIT planetary scientist Maria Zuber, who is part of the science team.
Prockter guessed that it could be remnants of a volcano. Other scientists think the leg-like features could be the same ridges seen all over Mercury.
First seen in the 1970s, the ridges now seen more widely provide evidence that Mercury is contracting, the scientists said.
Scientists had theorized that as the core of Mercury cools, it contracts and the whole planet shrinks. That was even a 19th Century theory for why Earth had mountains, but one that later proven wrong, Solomon said. But with Mercury that seems to be the case. As the planet shrinks, a bit of crust is pushed over another, forming what Prockter calls "wrinkle ridges."
Besides having what looks like the leftovers from volcanoes, Mercury has at least one crater that seems to be filled with what would be that planet's version of lava, Prockter said.
NASA launched the $446 million Messenger on its nearly 5 billion-mile mission in 2004. It will fly by Mercury two more times, this October and September 2009, before settling into orbit around in 2011. Messenger will take pictures, measure the planet's tenuous atmosphere, hills and valleys and unusual magnetic field - Mercury is the only solar system planet other than Earth to have a magnetosphere.
Quirky Mercury is one of the bigger question marks in the solar system, probed not nearly as much as Mars, Jupiter, Venus or Saturn.
Strom, a retired University of Arizona scientist who worked on Mariner 10, said that as he awaited Messenger's flyby earlier this month, "I couldn't sleep at all. I was like a kid on Christmas Eve."
Only he had to wait 30 years for his presents. It was worth it, he said: "What I saw was astounding to me."

Nature and nurture play role in mental illness

By Julie Steenhuysen and Ben Hirschler
Febuari 4, 2008

CHICAGO/LONDON (Reuters) - Variations in a gene helped shield adults who had endured child abuse from becoming depressed as adults, U.S. researchers said on Monday in a study that helps explain how nature and nurture give rise to mental illness.

And a British team has found that pregnant women who have a major emotional loss in the early months of pregnancy give birth to babies with a higher risk of schizophrenia.

The studies, published in the Archives of General Psychiatry, add to a growing understanding of how genetics and environmental distress sometimes act together to produce mental illness.

"It is not a question of genes versus environment. It is a question of how genes interact with whatever the environmental factors might be. And that is probably true of all of the disorders that we call mental illness," said Dr. Thomas Insel, director of the National Institutes of Mental Health.

"There is going to be a genetic factor that gives you the risk. And it all depends on what happens in a person's lifetime," Insel said in a telephone interview.

In the depression study, Dr. Kerry Ressler of Emory University in Atlanta found that some variations in a gene that regulates the stress hormone corticotropin-releasing hormone, or CRH, could protect those who had been abused as children.

Ressler and colleagues took DNA samples from 422 adults, most of whom were poor and black, and found about a third of them had the genetic variations.

People in this group who also had a history of abuse had half the symptoms of moderate to severe depression as those who did not have the protective variations of this gene. The researchers repeated the study in 199 wealthier white adults and came up with similar results.

The study builds on other research linking genes and stressful events with depression. A 2003 study in New Zealand found that people with a short version of a gene that relays the chemical messenger serotonin were more prone to depression after losing a job or a loved one.

NURTURE AND NATURE

"What we think these days is there isn't such a divide between nature and nurture," Dr. Kathryn Abel of the Centre for Women's Mental Health Research at Britain's University of Manchester said in a telephone interview.

Abel's schizophrenia study looked at 1.38 million babies born in Denmark between 1973 and 1995. Her team found the risk of schizophrenia was two-thirds greater among offspring whose mothers experienced the death of a relative during the first trimester.

The link disappeared after the first three months, however, perhaps because barriers are built up between mother and fetus later on that protect the unborn baby from stress hormones released by the mother.

Abel said it was possible the mother's hormones may either have a direct impact on development of the fetus brain or affect it indirectly by altering the activity of certain genes.

Schizophrenia is known to run in some families, indicating a genetic component to the disease, yet 90 percent of cases are still classed as nonfamilial or sporadic.

The new study found the association between a family death and the risk of schizophrenia was only significant in this sporadic setting, where a child's parents, grandparents or siblings had no history of mental illness.
