The Future of Science: We Will Have the Power of Gods

A leading theoretical physicist has tapped the best scientific brains of the age to provide a startling vision of the future.

Just before Sir Isaac Newton died, he described how humbled he felt by the thought that he had glimpsed only a fraction of the potential of the great scientific revolution he had helped to launch: "I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the seashore and diverting myself in now and then finding a smoother pebble or prettier shell than ordinary, while the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me."

Three centuries later, that great ocean of truth is not so mysterious. According to the theoretical physicist Professor Michio Kaku of the City College of New York, we are entering an empowered new era:

"We have unlocked the secrets of matter. We have unravelled the molecule of life, DNA. And we have created a form of artificial intelligence, the computer. We are making the historic transition from the age of scientific discovery to the age of scientific mastery in which we will be able to manipulate and mould nature almost to our wishes."

Among the technologies he believes will change our lives in the coming decades are cars that drive themselves, lab-grown human organs, 3D television, robots that can perform household tasks, eye glasses that double as home-entertainment centres, the exploitation of genes that alter human ageing and the possibility of invisibility and forms of teleportation.

"We will have the power to animate the inanimate, the power to create life itself," says Prof Kaku. "We will have the power of gods. But will we also have the wisdom of Solomon?"

In a new BBC4 series called Visions of the Future, Prof Kaku talks to today's pioneers about how we are moving from being passive observers of nature to its choreographers. Here are their remarkable speculations about how the scientific and technological revolution will transform life and society in the 21st century.

THE FUTURE OF PHYSICS

Teleportation

"We achieved quantum teleportation 10 years ago, and we're using it on a regular basis on the information carried by a system. This information is teleported over to another system, which assumes exactly that information; therefore it becomes identical with the original.

"If you dream about teleportation of humans – well, we can dream – then all kinds of questions arise, such as: what does it mean to be me? When someone teleports me and I know that what is being teleported is information – not matter, not the stuff I'm made of – who is it that ends up over there?"

The next generation of nuclear power

Scientists Now Know: We're Not From Here!

Imagine the shock of growing up in a loving family with people you call "Mum" and "Dad" and then, suddenly, learning that you are actually adopted!This same sense of shock came as scientists announced that the Sun, the Moon, our planet and its siblings, were not born into the familiar band of stars known as the Milky Way galaxy, but we actually belong to a strange formation with the unfamiliar name of the Sagittarius Dwarf galaxy!

How can this be?

Using volumes of data from the Two-Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS), a major project to survey the sky in infrared light led by the University of Massachusetts, the astronomers are answering questions that have baffled scientists for decades and proving that our own Milky Way is consuming one of its neighbors in a dramatic display of ongoing galactic cannibalism. The study published in the Astrophysical Journal, is the first to map the full extent of the Sagittarius galaxy and show in visually vivid detail how its debris wraps around and passes through our Milky Way. Sagittarius is 10,000 times smaller in mass than the Milky Way, so it is getting stretched out, torn apart and gobbled up by the bigger Milky Way.

A new infra red digital survey of the entire sky was made in 2003. Teams from the universities of Virginia and Massachusetts used a supercomputer to sort through half a billion stars to create a -- NEW STAR MAP showing our Solar System (yellow circle) to be at the exact nexus crossroads where two galaxies are actually joining.

"It's clear who's the bully in the interaction," said Steven Majewski, U.Va. professor of astronomy and lead author on the paper describing the results.

"If people had infrared-sensitive eyes, the entrails of Sagittarius would be a prominent fixture sweeping across our sky," Majewski said. "But at human, visual wavelengths, they become buried among countless intervening stars and obscuring dust. The great expanse of the Sagittarius system has been hidden from view."

Not any more. By using infrared maps, the astronomers filtered away millions of foreground stars to focus on a type of star called an M giant. These large, infrared-bright stars are populous in the Sagittarius galaxy but uncommon in the outer Milky Way. The 2MASS infrared map of M giant stars analyzed by Majewski and collaborators is the first to give a complete view of the Milky Way galaxy's meal of Sagittarius stars, now wrapping like a spaghetti noodle around the Milky Way. Prior to this work, astronomers had detected only a few scattered pieces of the disrupted Sagittarius dwarf. Even the existence of Sagittarius was unknown until the heart of this nearest satellite galaxy of the Milky Way was discovered by a British team of astronomers in 1994.

The fact that the Milky Way is seen in the sky at an angle has always puzzled astronomers. If we originated from the Milky Way, we ought to be oriented to the galaxy's ecliptic, with the planets aligned around our Sun in much the same angle as our Sun aligns with the Milky Way. Instead, as first suggested by researcher Matthew Perkins Erwin, the odd angle suggests that our Sun is influenced by some other system. Together with data from the Two-Micron All Sky Survey we now know what it is. We actually belong to the Sagittarius Dwarf galaxy.

"We sifted several thousand interesting stars from a catalog of half a billion," said co-author Michael Skrutskie, U.Va. professor of astronomy and principal investigator for the 2MASS project. "By tuning our maps of the sky to the 'right' kind of star, the Sagittarius system jumped into view."

We are from another galaxy in the process of joining with the Milky Way. The Milky Way is actually not our parent galaxy. The mystery of why the Milky Way has always been sideways in the night sky has never been answered -- until now.

"This first full-sky map of Sagittarius shows its extensive interaction with the Milky Way," Majewski said. "Both stars and star clusters now in the outer parts of the Milky Way have been 'stolen' from Sagittarius as the gravitational forces of the Milky Way nibbled away at its dwarf companion. This one vivid example shows that the Milky Way grows by eating its smaller neighbors."

The study's map of M giants depicts 2 billion years of Sagittarius stripping by the Milky Way, and suggests that Sagittarius has reached a critical phase in what had been a slow dance of death.

"After slow, continuous gnawing by the Milky Way, Sagittarius has been whittled down to the point that it cannot hold itself together much longer," said 2MASS Science Team member and study co-author Martin Weinberg of the University of Massachusetts. "We are seeing Sagittarius at the very end of its life as an intact system."

Does this mean we are at a unique moment in the life of our galaxy? Yes and no.

"Whenever possible, astronomers appeal to the principle that we are not at a special time or place in the universe," Majewski said. "Because over the 14 billion-year history of the Milky Way it is unlikely that we would just happen to catch a brief event like the death of Sagittarius, we infer that such events must be common in the life of big spiral galaxies like our own. The Milky Way probably dined on a number of dwarf galaxy snacks in the past."

On the other hand, Majewski and his colleagues have been surprised by the Earth's proximity to a portion of the Sagittarius debris.

"For only a few percent of its 240 million-year orbit around the Milky Way galaxy does our Solar System pass through the path of Sagittarius debris," Majewski said. "Remarkably, stars from Sagittarius are now raining down onto our present position in the Milky Way. Stars from an alien galaxy are relatively near us. We have to re-think our assumptions about the Milky Way galaxy to account for this contamination."

The new findings will help astronomers measure the total mass of the Milky Way and Sagittarius galaxies, and probe the quantity and distribution of the invisible dark matter in these systems.

"The shape of the Sagittarius debris trail shows us that the Milky Way's unseen dark matter is in a spherical distribution, a result that is quite unexpected," Weinberg said.

"The observations provide new insights into the nature of the mysterious dark matter," said Princeton's Spergel. "Either our galaxy is unusual or the dark matter has richer properties than postulated by conventional models."

Implications in Global Warming?

It has been postulated that this is the real reason for both global warming since higher energy levels of the Milky Way are almost certain to cause our Sun to burn hotter and emit higher energies. Indeed, temperatures have been seen to rise on virtually all the planets in our system. This seems quite apart from any local phenomenon like greenhouse gases etc.

This grand turning is possibly the root cause for the discontinuation of the Mayan calendar (the most accurate on the planet) because the 'read-point' of the Pleiades star cluster, which many believe the calendar was based upon, can no longer be a constant as we begin to steer away from the earlier predictable movements.

Other changes happening in our system

The "marriage" of our birth galaxy with our new adopted Milky Way galaxy is causing energy shifts that are obvious just about everywhere. Here are some changes being watched by scientists:

* A growth of dark spots on Pluto.

* Reporting of auroras on Saturn.

* Reporting of Uranus and Neptune polar shifts (They are magnetically conjugate planets), and the abrupt large-scale growth of Uranus' magnetosphere intensity.

* A change in light intensity and light spot dynamics on Neptune.

* The doubling of the magnetic field intensity on Jupiter (based upon 1992 data), and a series of new states and processes observed on this planet as an aftermath of a series of explosions in July 1994 [caused by "Comet" SL-9]. That is, a relaxation of a plasmoid train which excited the Jovian magnetosphere, thus inducing excessive plasma generation and it's release in the same manner as Solar coronal holes inducing an appearance of radiation belt brightening in decimeter band (13.2 and 36 cm), and the appearance of large auroral anomalies and a change of the Jupiter - Io system of currents.

Update Note: A stream of ionized hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, etc. is being directed to Jupiter from the volcanic areas of Io through a one million amperes flux tube. It is affecting the character of Jupiter's magnetic process and intensifying it's plasma genesis.[Z.I.Vselennaya "Earth and Universe" N3, 1997 plo-9 by NASA data]

* A series of Martian atmosphere transformations increasing its biosphere quality. In particularly, a cloudy growth in the equator area and an unusual growth of ozone concentration.

Update Note: Mars Surveyor Satellite encountered an atmospheric density double that projected by NASA upon entering a Mars orbit. This greater density bent one of the solar array arms beyond the full and open stop. This combination of events has delayed the beginning of the scheduled photo mission for one year.

* A first stage atmosphere generation on the Moon, where a growing natrium atmosphere is detected that reaches 9,000 km in height.

* Significant physical, chemical and optical changes observed on Venus; an inversion of dark and light spots detected for the first time, and a sharp decrease of sulfur-containing gases in its atmosphere.

* A Change in the Quality of Interplanetary Space Towards an Increase in Its Interplanetary and Solar-Planetary Transmitting Properties.

When speaking of new energetic and material qualities of interplanetary space, we must first point out the increase of the interplanetary domains energetic charge, and level of material saturation. This change of the typical mean state of interplanetary space has two main causes:

* The supply/inflow of matter from interstellar space. (Radiation material, ionized elements, and combinations.)

* The after effects of Solar Cycle 22 activity, especially as a result of fast coronal mass ejection's [CME's] of magnetized solar plasmas.

What does it all mean?

We of the overarching Sagittarius Dwarf Elliptical Galaxy have finally come down next to, and even with the massively powerful spiral armed equatorial plane of the Milky Way Galaxy.

In our movement through space, our Earth has now fully begun to respond to the more powerful galactic energies and electro-gravitational bias of the massive Milky Way. We have reached the higher energy equatorial disc region of the massive spiral arm. We have now been "adopted" by a new system, a stronger and more powerful system, and we can expect changes on almost every level of energy.

Whatever these changes are, they are all part of the natural birth, death, rebirth and transformation of the cosmos. As our knowledge of the universe grows, we cannot but understand how much we do not understand. Such is life.

Back when the telescope was first invented, those who observed the movement of the planets postulated that the Earth was not the center of "God's creation" and were criticized, imprisoned and even put to death as heretics. The criticism was usually vague and simply stated that things were not that way because... everyone should know they it's just not that way... A paradigm is always difficult to change and seldom yields to a newer idea without much dialog and discussion.

When we published this story in June of 2007 we hoped it would initiate some thought and perhaps get people asking questions. It sure did that! Hi Dan,

I've been considering a hypothesis that might explain why the Inuit (and others) are noticing that the sun is not rising and setting where it has in the past. Some have suggested this is due to a pole shift, but that can't be because Polaris would be in a different place -- as would the constellations.

My hypothesis is that the angle of the ecliptic is changing while the Earth's tilt (relative to the galactic plane and constellations) remains fixed. I liken this effect to a gyroscope sitting on a see-saw, where Earth is the gyro, Sol is a heat source at the center of the see-saw, and finally the ecliptic plane is the see-saw itself.

Consider this:

To understand my hypothesis consider this analogy. Place a spinning gyroscope on a see-saw that has a heat source (1000W lamp?) located at the center ( i.e. fulcrum point) of the see-saw. As the see-saw moves up or down, the gyro remains upright Ð much like your upper torso would remain upright if you were sitting on the see-saw. If you tilt the see-saw downward enough -- let's say on the side that the gyro is sitting -- then the upper part of the gyro would receive more heat. If you then move the gyro to the other side of the see-saw without changing the inclination of the see-saw, the lower part of the gyro would receive more heat.

Now substitute:

See-Saw = Ecliptic
Heat Source = Sun
Gyro = Earth
Moving gyro to other side of see-saw = 1/2 year orbit around sun

I think you see what I'm getting at. This analogy could be used to explain why ice is melting on both poles, and why our seasons are harsher and why there are reports of the sun rising and setting in different locations than in the past. Your thoughts?

Terence McKenna: Profeet van de new-age, onderzoeker van de old-age

De Amerikaan Terence McKenna woont in California, maar is ook beheerder van een heel bijzondere botanische tuin in Hawaii, waar uitstervende planten worden bewaard. Hij is tegenwoordig de leider van de psychedelische beweging in de VS, als opvolger van Tim Leary en is bekend als verteller, schrijver, botanicus, profeet van de (natuurlijke) hallucinogene drugs en ontdekker van de Time Wave. Hij komt op 19 mei in het kader van een Europese lezingentoernee naar Nederland.

Als achtergrond volgen hieronder een aantal stukken over en van Terence McKenna.

Boing-Boing interview
Op basis van gesprekken met hem en een interview in bOING-bOING door Mark Frauenfelder is door Luc Sala onderstaande impressie geschreven van deze eigenzinnige space-/aardbewoner met zijn `eschatologie' die is gebaseerd op een mathematisch precies bepaald jaartal, namelijk 2012.

De verovering van nieuwe dimensies
Terence McKenna is langzamerhand voor veel mensen uit de alternatieve hoek een begrip. Zijn karakteristieke en nasale stemgeluid is via bandjes van zijn lezingen wereldwijd een begrip geworden. Toen hij dit jaar ook nog eens met de Engelse band `The Shamen' optrad, werd hij ook het symbool van de revival van de jaren zestig.

Net als Timothy Leary heeft hij het contact met de moderne jeugd in stand weten te houden en past zijn boodschap toch weer helemaal in onze tijd. Zijn boeken, zoals Food of the Gods, gaan over de rol die drugs in alle tijden en alle culturen hebben gespeeld, heel vaak als onderdeel van de spirituele traditie. Terence McKenna is wat dat betreft een expert op het gebied van drugs als Psylocibin, Ahuayasca en DMT. Hij beheert, samen met zijn broer, op Hawaii een botani sche tuin waarin hij zeldzame exemplaren van bedreigde (ook psycho-actieve) planten probeert te bewaren. Hij hecht aan de erkenning van de rol van drugs - en daaronder vallen ook drank, koffie, tabak en chocolade - in de historie en speculeert graag over zijn ervaringen. Zo ziet hij in zijn DMT-ervaringen vormen van communicatie met `andere' werkelijkheden of andere dimen sies, waar wezens of `entities' net zo verbaasd zijn als wij dat we tijdens zo'n trip in hun domein verschijnen.

In de ervaringen met magische paddestoelen herkent hij niet alleen het contact met de `spirits' van de paddestoelen, maar speculeert hij zelfs wat vrijmoedig dat dit soort middelen de manier vor men waarop buitenaardse beschavingen met ons communiceren. Samen met Rupert Sheldrake (van de morfogenetische velden) en Ralph Abrahams (chaos) houdt McKenna de laatste tijd zogenaamde Trilogues, samenspraken, waar dan weer boeken over verschijnen. Maar er is ook een aantal andere boeken van Terence uitgegeven, helaas nog niet in het Nederlands.

Tijdens zijn lezingen/optredens neemt Terence zijn publiek mee naar een andere, wonderlijke en vooral fascinerende wereld in een trance-achtige verteltrant, aangevuld met muziek en beeld materiaal dat van een lezing van hem een echte `trip'maakt.

Archaic Revival is een heel interessant boek. Wat bedoel je als je daarin zegt dat we rond het jaar 2012 voor onszelf onherkenbaar zullen zijn geworden?

De tijd ofwel de mate van verandering gaat steeds sneller, we stevenen af op een soort ineenstorting. Ik geloof dat de meeste mensen het erover eens zullen zijn dat de `tijd' in de loop van de menselijke geschiedenis, of bijvoorbeeld in de twintigste eeuw, of in pakweg de afgelopen twintig maanden, schijnbaar sneller is gaan lopen.

En in plaats van dit fenomeen als triviaal af te doen of als een soort bijkomstigheid van onze beperkte waarneming, neem ik liever aan dat dit een reëel gegeven is, dat de tijd daadwerkelijk sneller loopt. Als je de geschiedenis van ons universum bekijkt, zie je dat dit al heel, heel lang gaande is. Het leven gaat steeds sneller en sneller.

Bedoel je dat in fysieke zin alles sneller verloopt?

Juist. Er was bijvoorbeeld meteen na het ontstaan van ons universum een lange periode waarin niets anders gebeurde dan een algehele afkoeling. De dichtheid en de energie waren zo groot dat er geen moleculen, geen stabiele structuren en zelfs geen atomaire systemen mogelijk waren. Het universum zat heel simpel in elkaar en was voornamelijk heel erg heet. Met de afkoeling werd het complexer. Elke temperatuurdaling maakte nieuwe gebeurtenissen mogelijk die volgden op de voorafgaande ontwikkeling.

Eerst vormen zich bijvoorbeeld elektronen die zich rond kernen groeperen en dan krijg je voor het eerst atomaire wisselwerkingen. Vervolgens koelt het universum verder af en verschijnen er moleculaire processen en verbindingen van geringere sterkte, die alleen bij lagere temperaturen tot stand kunnen komen. Uiteindelijk kunnen zich complexe en veelzijdige structuren vormen.

Maar hoe laat dit alles de tijd sneller lopen?

Het proces van steeds groeiende complexiteit vindt dus overal in de natuur plaats. Je kunt ook zelf wel vaststellen dat het steeds sneller en sneller is gegaan; het heeft heel lang geduurd voordat er leven kwam of voordat alleen al de sterren en de planeten gevormd waren, maar toen er eenmaal leven was, kreeg je een versnelde vermenigvuldiging van vormen. Versneld is dan relatief, we spreken nog altijd over honderden miljoenen jaren.Na de primitieve levensvormen kwamen de lagere dieren en toen de hogere diersoorten, waaronder ook wijzelf. Vervolgens ontwikkelden zich taal, cultuur, schrift en elektronische media.

Elk van deze stappen volgt de andere steeds sneller op. Dat leidt tot de conclusie dat de menselijke geschiedenis (de denkende wezens op deze planeet die tevens in staat waren bijvoorbeeld werktuigen en poëzie te maken) te maken heeft met een soort gevangen zijn of, anders geformuleerd, met een fortuinlijke positionering vlak bij een of andere anomalie, die achter tijd en ruimte ligt. Je zou het je kunnen voorstellen als een soort botsing met een hyperdimensioneel zwart gat. De architectuur van de evolutionaire doorbraak is in elk DNA-molecule op deze aarde gegrift.

Wij, ons universum en alles wat erin zit, worden steeds dichter naar de aanwezigheid van iets toegezogen, een soort fictief eschaton dat ons onafwendbaar trekt. Dat `einde' kunnen we ons niet voorstellen, maar het komt eraan, onafwendbaar als ik de voorafgaande ontwikkeling tenminste juist interpreteer.

Hoe het kon gebeuren dat 50.000 jaar geleden met stront gooiende apen besloten om op de lange reis te gaan naar de space-shuttle en een globaal geïntegreerde economie, naar milieu vervuiling en de hele reutemeteut? 25.000 tot 50.000 jaar geleden werd er een of ander uniek proces in de natuur ontketend en vanaf dat punt ontstond er een ongelofelijke druk in de richting van de symbolische expressie en de culturele consequentie daarvan: de technologie.

Hoewel het erop begint te lijken dat we de limieten van deze planeet hebben bereikt, vertoont het proces zelf geen enkel symptoom van vertraging. Dus, in plaats van het te zien als een soort Apocalyps of als de verzelfstandiging van een of andere verschrikkelijke fout in het menselijk lot, zie ik het liever allemaal als een natuurfenomeen. De menselijke geschiedenis is niet onze fout!

De wereld wordt met stappen en sprongen steeds gekker. Alles beweegt sneller en sneller en het wordt steeds science fiction-achtiger. Er bestaan epidemische ziektes die het menselijke leven mogelijkerwijze kunnen uitroeien, en tegelijkertijd zijn er geruchten over koude fusie en reizen naar de sterren. Ondertussen ontmoeten mensen midden in de nacht kleine rubberachtige wezens in hun kamer of ondergaan rectaal onderzoek. Als je dan ook nog psychedelische drugs, shamaan-planten en dat soort dingen aan deze mix toevoegt en op reis gaat door de architectonische superruimte van onze cultuur, dan merk je dat het kosmische ei behoorlijk aan het kraken is. We hebben de neiging om dat nu, aan het einde van het tweede millennium, `het verval van de westerse beschaving' te noemen.

Wat hebben al deze rare dingen nou met de tijd te maken?

Kijk, als je het analyseert, betekent het dat er allerlei ongewone verbindingen bestaan. Verbindingen tussen dingen die normaliter niet met elkaar verbonden zouden zijn. Dat was bijvoorbeeld ook de waarneming van het surrealisme.

Een andere manier om over de versnelling van de tijd te denken kan ook zijn dat alle grenzen - van tijd en ruimte - beginnen op te lossen en dat alles zich samen begint te voegen tot een soort organisch amoebe-achtig iets dat mens, machine, cultuur, spiritualiteit en materie verbindt en dat zich als een koraal rif om onze planeet uitspreidt.

Om nou niet gek te worden en er `het einde van alles' in te zien, moet je er vooral aan denken dat dit alles niet ongecontroleerd verloopt. Dus dan is natuurlijk de volgende vraag; gecontroleerd waardoor? Ik denk dat het - op een dieper niveau - gecontroleerd wordt door zoiets als de Geest van Gaia.

De Geest van Gaia?

Ja, de planeet is een soort georganiseerde intelligentie. Het is iets heel anders dan wij zijn. Zij heeft 5 à 6 miljard jaren de tijd gehad om een langzaam bewegende geest op te bouwen die uit oceanen en rivieren, uit regenwouden en gletsjers bestaat. Je kunt je eigenlijk nauwelijks een onwaarschijnlijker relatie voorstellen: de technologische aap en de dromende planeet. En toch, aangezien ons bestaan wederzijds afhankelijk is, bestaat er een gevoel van verbondenheid met dit immense, merkwaardige, wijze, oude, neutrale en rare ding, dat net bezig is om uit te zoeken waarom haar dromen zulke nachtmerries zijn en waarom alles zo uit evenwicht is.

Wegsmeltende cultuur
De cultuur is aan het wegsmelten. Het gebeurt gewoon en niemand weet waar het naartoe leidt. Er wordt al gewerkt met computer modellen, waarvan sommige aantonen dat het te laat is. Zelfs als er overal mannen en vrouwen van goede wil zouden opstaan en de zaak zouden gaan controleren, dan zou het, verdomme, toch nog te laat zijn. Ik geloof dat niet! Ik geloof dat hier een of ander groot plan achter zit dat niet van een almachtige God of zo afkomstig is, maar vanuit de biologie. Het is de architectuur van de evolutionaire doorbraak, die in elk DNA-molecule op deze aarde gegrift is.

Het zal gebeuren; de kosmische eierschaal is aan het kraken. De baarmoeder is gescheurd en er is geen andere uitweg dan de reis door het angstaanjagende geboorte-kanaal van de ervaring. De komende dertig jaar zullen je haren laten rijzen, gegarandeerd, want het is nog maar nauwelijks begonnen...

Wij leven nu in de gouden avondschemering van de Westerse beschaving. De lange namiddag van het Cartesiaans rationalisme. Voor ons liggen het falen van de landbouw, plotselinge atmosferische veranderingen, etnische oorlogen, sexueel overdraagbare ziektes, propaganda, superdrugs án een hele hoop goede dingen. Maar het wordt wel de tanden op elkaar zetten om er aan het einde der tijden doorheen te breken, want er is zoveel dat ontketend wil worden... Wat zal gebeuren is dat wij in iets anders zullen veranderen.

We zijn nu bezig om de oorspronkelijke vraag te beantwoorden, namelijk waarom wij in het jaar 2012 voor onszelf onherkenbaar zullen zijn geworden. Dit komt doordat wij niet herkenbaar kunnen blijven án kunnen overleven. Wij apen houden van een goed gevecht, dus nu is het zover. Het gezoen moet nu maar eens afgelopen zijn en de strijd zal wild en woelig worden. Maar we zijn intelligent, we zijn doordouwers.

En wat heeft dat sneller en sneller gaan te betekenen?

Het betekent dat de tijd op een gegeven moment zó snel gaat dat de rest van de toekomst - maar dan ook alles - binnen een paar seconden gebeurd zal zijn. Het lijkt een beetje op de blaasvormige uitbreiding van ruimte en tijd aan het begin van ons universum. Uiteindelijk zal er een samentrekking van ruimte en tijd plaatsvinden, die op het uit elkaar spatten van een zeepbel lijkt. Ik denk dat dit aan de basis ligt van het bekken van aantrekking dat ons naar zich toetrekt en dat ergens in de laatste maanden van 2012 lijkt te liggen.

Hoe ben je op 2012 gekomen?

Nou, dat is een ingewikkeld verhaal met wiskunde, fractals en computerprogramma's, ik heb daar een speciaal computerprogramma voor gemaakt, Time Wave. Het is wel vrij dicht in de buurt nu, toen ik die datum voor het eerst bepaalde was het nog twee keer zo ver weg. Maar als je er op let, lijkt het wel alsof we er nu op afstomen. Aan de andere kant, als je zo'n exponentiële ineenstorting ondergaat, kan het je echt verrassen. Er zal ook wel iemand verrast geweest zijn door de uitbarsting van het universum.

Dus hoe zal 2013 eruit zien?

Dat is ongeveer zoiets vragen als: Hoe moeten wij ons iets voorstellen dat we ons in principe niet kunnen voorstellen? Maar er zijn verschillende mogelijkheden om het te benaderen, om er een model voor op te stellen. Ik denk dat er een soort verovering van dimensies gaande is. De voorafgaande dimensie, waarin je besloten lag, wordt een soort basis- of eenheidsniveau als je het vanuit het nieuwe standpunt bekijkt.

Misschien gaat de cultuur zich naar een soort intellectuele hyperruimte toe ontwikkelen. En dan is er de vraag waar dat zal zijn? In de wimper van een fruitvlieg? Kunnen we zoiets als een virus worden en gewoon in de cumuli van de stratosfeer gaan drijven? Ik weet het niet, maar het is op dit moment ook niet mijn zaak om het te weten. Ik denk dat we door een heleboel heen moeten gaan. Ik geloof dat de mensen het (nog) niet begrijpen. Zoals door het `Firesign Theatre' altijd gezegd werd: Alles wat je weet is fout.

Dat is een heel bevrijdende manier van denken, want als alles wat je weet fout is, dan kunnen ook alle problemen, waarvan jij dacht dat ze onoplosbaar waren, op een andere manier bekeken worden. En er is dan ook een manier om de wereld uit elkaar te halen en weer in elkaar te zetten als iets onherkenbaars.

We moeten hier leren van onze ervaringen. We begrijpen niet echt wat bewustzijn op een dieper niveau eigenlijk inhoudt. Met sommige hallucinogenen zie je ineens mogelijkheden waarin vragen zoals `Leef je?', `Ben je dood?' of `Ben jij jij?' blijkbaar getranscendeerd zijn. Ik denk dat de mensen een heel bekrompen concept hebben van wat er met de realiteit allemaal mogelijk is, dat we dus omgeven zijn door de schrijnende af grond van het onmeetbare en onkenbare en dat niemand weet wat daarbuiten allemaal gaande is...

Europese Unie hanteert twee maten en gewichten op het vlak van mensenrechten

BRUSSEL - De Europese Unie ligt onder vuur omdat ze op het vlak van de mensenrechten met twee verschillende maten en gewichten werkt. De internationale organisatie die instaat voor de verdediging van de Roma in Europa, is erg misnoegd over het feit dat de Roma niet op de agenda stonden van het prestigieuze Jaarlijkse Forum voor de Mensenrechten, dat op 13 december 2000 georganiseerd werd in Parijs.

Volgens het Europese Centrum voor de Rechten van de Roma (ERRC), een organisatie die wettelijke bijstand verleent bij discriminatie, zet het Forum "de ongelukkige EU-traditie voort om mensenrechten te behandelen als een louter buitenlandse aangelegenheid." De rechten van de zigeuners binnen Europa waren vorige herfst al ter sprake gekomen op het eerste Discussieforum over de Mensenrechten, "maar de meeting in Parijs zal dat thema opnieuw negeren en zich in de plaats concentreren op de externe actie van de Unie," zegt het ERRC.

De voorzitster van het ARRC heeft de uitnodiging van Parijs afgewimpeld. "Het racisme in de EU en de groeiende intolerantie ten opzichte van migranten zijn ernstige mensenrechtenproblemen die voorkomen in alle lidstaten," zegt Dimitrina Petrova. "We wachten al geruime tijd op een initiatief van de Franse voorzitter of de Commissie om de dialoog daarover op gang te brengen. Ook nu weer moeten we vaststellen dat het programma van de conferentie van Parijs volhardt in dezelfde aanpak."

"Ik wil het belang van het Forum in Parijs niet overschatten, zegt Dimitrova, "maar de agenda ervan is exemplarisch voor een groter probleem: de EU heeft geen oog voor de mensenrechten binnen haar lidstaten." Het ERRC vindt dat het recht op internationale bescherming van politieke vluchtelingen zwaar onder druk staat in de EU. Vooral inzake het wettelijke kader voor het asielrecht en de internationale bescherming van Roma-vluchtelingen schieten vele Europese regeringen tekort, meent het ERRC.

De kritiek dat de EU "met twee maten en gewichten" werkt op het vlak van mensenrechten, klinkt ook vanuit andere hoek, vooral nu Oost-Europese staten hun kandidatuur voor het lidmaatschap hebben ingediend. Tijdens het Discussieforum van vorig jaar verklaarde de toenmalige Finse minister van buitenlandse zaken Tarja Halonen dat "de EU consequent moet zijn om geloofwaardig te zijn. Het is moeilijk om anderen ervan te overtuigen normen te respecteren die we zelf niet hanteren." Ook het Comité der Wijzen van de Europese Commissie merkte in haar 'Agenda voor de Mensenrechten voor de Europese Unie in het jaar 2000' al op dat er binnen de EU op grote schaal schendingen van de mensenrechten plaatsvinden. Naar aanleiding van de aantreding van Jorg Haiders extreem-rechtse FPO beveelde hetzelfde Comité der Wijzen aan "om een mechanisme te ontwikkelen om te controleren of de lidstaten de gemeenschappelijk Europese waarden naleven," aldus het ERRC.

De schendingen van de rechten van de Roma werden in augustus nog bevestigd door de VN. Uit een rapport van het Comité voor de Eliminatie van Rassendiscriminatie bleek dat zigeuners het slachtoffer zijn van geweld, racisme en andere schendingen in de volgende landen: Albanië, Bosnië-Herzegovina, Bulgarije, Kroatië, Tsjechië, Frankrijk, Griekenland, Hongarije, Italië, Polen, Roemenië, Rusland, Slovakije, Oekraïne en Joegoslavië.

Vele Roma zoeken een onderdak in Duitsland omdat ze aangevallen worden door Kosovaarse Albanezen. Die zijn ervan overtuigd dat de zigeuners samenwerken met de Serviërs in het conflict in Kosovo. Omdat er sprake is van een patroon beveelt de Hoge Commissaris voor de Vluchtelingen van de VN aan dat "Kosovaarse Roma erkend worden als vluchtelingen of als personen die internationale bescherming nodig hebben."

Voorlopig wordt daar weinig gehoor aan gegeven. Alle lidstaten proberen de komst van de Roma af te remmen door een visumplicht in te voeren voor de landen waar ze vandaan komen. "Veel lidstaten beroepen zich nu op procedures voor zogenaamde 'duidelijk ongefundeerde aanvragen'," beweert het ERRC. "Door het diepgewortelde vooroordeel dat zigeuners onverbeterlijke leugenaars zijn, vrezen we dat Roma die echt bescherming nodig hebben geen gehoor zullen vinden bij de autoriteiten." Claude Cahn van het ERRC ziet "een sterke tendens tot uitdrijving van niet-EU-burgers die al eeuwen in Europa wonen. Oostenrijk, Italië en Finland bijvoorbeeld, hebben een wetgeving gestemd over vluchtelingen en die op discriminerende wijze gebruikt tegen de Roma." (IPS)

Freemasonry in China and Taiwan

Early Days in China

Freemasonry spread rapidly throughout Europe in the 18th century and to America, India and to the East. There were numbers of Freemasons who were administrators or armed forces personnel among the expanding sea-borne empires of Britain, Sweden, Holland and France. Also, some merchants trading with Asian countries were members of the Craft. It was with a ship of the Swedish East India Company, the 'Prince Carl', that freemasonry first reached China. The masons on board had a document giving them permission to hold meetings 'wherever they came ashore' and they did so in Canton (now called Guangzhou) in late 1759. Apparently, there are no records of the working of the lodge at that time. The engraved list of lodges of 1768 under the Premier Grand Lodge of England shows No. 407, the Lodge of Amity, meeting in Canton. It is not well documented but there is some conjecture that this English lodge may have met in the Swedish Factory of the Swedish East India Company. The merchants were keen to trade for Chinese porcelain, silk and tea. Some commissioned China decorated with Masonic emblems and bowls still exists in museums. This period saw greater discontent over restrictions on trade between the Chinese and the 'barbarian' European merchants in Canton. The foreign merchants, possibly buoyed by the victories at Trafalgar and Waterloo, felt that they should press the Chinese for greater concessions. Another factor was the growth in opium trading and the increasing demands for tea and silk. These differences over trade between the Chinese and particularly Britain led to the 'opium wars', resulting in the Treaty of Nanking in 1842 and with the ceding of the barren rock of Hong Kong to the British.

Hong Kong

Soon after the British acquired the territory of Hong Kong, two lodges were established. The first was Royal Sussex Lodge No. 501 EC warranted on 18 September 1844, named after the Duke of Sussex, who was then the Grand Master in London. The first meeting was held on 3 April 1845. Later, the Lodge moved to Guangzhou and then on to Shanghai, returning to Hong Kong in 1952. The first senior warden of the Lodge was Richard John, Viscount Suirdale, the Fourth Earl of Donoughmore. The second lodge, Zetland Lodge No 525 EC, warranted on 21 March 1846 was named after the Marquis of Zetland, Grand Master 1844 to 1870. Zetland claims seniority, as it has remained in Hong Kong since its formation. The formation of other Lodges and Orders followed. Zetland Lodge undertook the first purpose built Masonic hall for its meetings on the upper part of Zetland Street but it was destroyed in the Japanese invasion of Hong Kong. After the war, the site of the first hall was sold to the Hong Kong Electric Company and there is an electric sub-station still on the site. A second Masonic hall was erected on the site of an old hotel on 1, Kennedy Road and the dedication of the building was held on 30 January 1950. The first Irish Lodge to be consecrated in Hong Kong after the Pacific War was Shamrock Lodge No 712 in 1947. A former member of Shamrock Lodge No 712, W. Bro. William Lamprill, was present at the Foundation Stone Laying in 1947. He was initiated in May 1947 and is now ninety-nine years of age residing at the China Coast Community in Kowloon. The rededication of Zetland Hall took place on 30 January 2000.

District Grand Lodge of Northern China

In China, a warrant was granted to the Northern Lodge of China No. 570 EC in 1849. The first meetings were held in houses of Chinese construction in Shanghai not far from the Cathedral compound. The first Masonic hall in Shanghai was constructed on Nanking Road (formerly known as Park Lane) but later another was built on Canton Road in 1861. Thereafter, lodges were formed in Kiukiang, Qingdao, Wei Hai Wei and Tianjin, and eventually in most of the ports of China were open to foreigners (the Treaty Ports) and the inland cities of Nanjing, Beijing, Harbin and Chengdu. These operated under charters granted by various countries including England, Massachusetts, Scotland, Ireland, Germany and later the Philippines. The first Irish lodge to be erected in China was Lodge Erin No 463 warranted on 8 October 1919 in Shanghai. The Lodge transferred to Hong Kong in 1952. The District Grand Lodge of Northern China was strong and active and many of the Masonic halls constructed in the early 1900's are still standing but now in use for other purposes. The one in Tienjin is now being used as a restaurant entitled 'The Cat Doesn't Care'. There were about six different Constitutions operating in China with the utmost cordiality.

Chinese Members

During the Qing Dynasty, the Imperial Government imposed restrictions on Chinese persons and it was almost impossible for a Chinese to become a freemason although in 1873, the leader of a Chinese educational mission in Massachusetts may well have done so. The first known Chinese to become a mason in China was a lieutenant in the Imperial Chinese Navy who was initiated into Star of Southern China No. 2013 EC in Guangzhou in 1889. In Hong Kong, early Chinese Freemasons included Sir Kai Ho Kai and the Honourable Wei Yuk who were initiated into Lodge St. John No 618 SC and took an active part in the formation of the University of Hong Kong. By the beginning of the Sino-Japanese War, many lodges in China had an increase in Chinese members, especially those meeting under the Grand Lodge of the Philippines.

Initially, the effect of hostilities on Masons by the Japanese in China was not great. Later, the Japanese authorities began a Nazi inspired investigation into freemasonry in Shanghai and harassed many prominent members who were held in custody for many weeks. In Japan, there were well-established laws against secret societies but lodges of foreigners had been assured originally that these would not affect them. Japanese nationals at that time were not permitted to join lodges. Freemasons in some of the occupied areas of China were able to continue and meet but it became gradually more difficult for the lodges to operate. Foochow Lodge No 1912 EC in Fuzhou met for the greater part of the war until 1944.

Hong Kong fell on December 1941. Several of the Hong Kong lodges met informally and under dangerous conditions in prisoner of war camps. Cathy Lodge No. 4373 EC met in Stanley prison where a minute book was kept.

The End of Hostilities and Formation of the Grand Lodge of China

With the end of hostilities, the lodges in China and Hong Kong revived, although some moved from the provinces into Shanghai, Tianjin and Hong Kong. With the Japanese occupation over, there was a new enthusiasm towards Freemasonry and the intention of forming a new Grand Lodge of China. There were six Philippine lodges meeting in China which were entirely Chinese. They were desirous of forming a Grand Lodge of China and the members of other Constitutions led by the English supported this cause. A Concordat was drafted in early February 1949. Eight points were laid down and two special notes were added:

1. Permission to open one Lodge under the Chinese Constitution in Hong Kong to enable some forty Chinese Masons to practice under their own forms and ritual, and in the sincere belief that this will promote harmony and friendship between Chinese and English Masons
2. A restriction of jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of China to 'the three symbolic degrees'.

This Concordat was communicated to Grand Lodge in London in 1949 with the informal agreement of the Irish and Scottish colleagues in Shanghai. The new Grand Lodge was consecrated on 18 March 1949 at the Masonic Temple, Route Dufour, Shanghai. Members of various Constitutions were present at the consecration.

Communism

By January 1949, the northern cities of Beijing and Tienjin were in the hands of the Communists. By the end of the year, the whole of China was under their authority. The Chinese did not intend to have the main facilities of their port and main facilities left into foreign hands and this is still the case today. With the establishment of the People's Republic of China, most of the lodges continued to meet, but those that met in the American Masonic Temple in Shanghai decided to close down. The Korean War had commenced and America was opposed to Communism. The English District Grand Master of Northern China offered to close if the Central People's Government requested it, affirming that regular Freemasons always give obedience to the lawful government of whichever country they are in. No request was made and the British lodges meeting in at the Masonic Hall in Beijing Road West in Shanghai continued to meet. The earlier enthusiasm waned and the chances of survival became doubtful. The policy adopted in respect of foreign enterprises would have the effect of Europeans leaving China and with it many brethren. This was because its largely foreign membership had by then left China and not because of any outward conflict with the authorities. Many of the lodges transferred their warrants to Hong Kong as it was under British rule. The last lodge, Northern Lodge, meeting there did so until 1962 when it transferred to Hong Kong (now extinct). It seems that a more stringent policy was soon adopted towards the Chinese and the authorities were taking an increasing interest in the Craft. The Ministry of the Interior required the Grand Lodge of China to register. One understands that the Grand Lodge was constantly under interference and molestation by the authorities and was unable to register. Therefore, the files and regalia were transferred surreptitiously to Hong Kong. Many Chinese brethren also followed the Nationalist Government to Taiwan.

Taiwan

In Taiwan, the inception of US Military Assistance Advisory Group in 1951 added to the number of Masons. It followed an application to the Grand Lodge of China in Hong Kong for permission to consecrate a Lodge in Taipei. After some difficulty with the authorities, Liberty Lodge No. 7 was consecrated in 1952 and initiations were held under dispensation. The Grand Lodge was then reactivated in Taipei in 1955, as were the six former mainland Lodges. The position of the PRC has always been that Taiwan is only a province of the PRC and there is only 'one China'. Following the establishment of the Grand Lodge of China on the mainland, only eight foreign jurisdictions had established fraternal relations with the Grand Lodge of China. Now at least eighty-eight jurisdictions, including all the USA forty-nine jurisdictions have recognized the Grand Lodge in Taipei as does the Irish Constitution.

Change of Sovereignty in Hong Kong

On the 30 June 1997, in Hong Kong, the Union Jack flag was lowered after about 150 years of British rule and the Chinese flag hoisted. The territory of Hong Kong was thus handed over and designated a Special Administration Region of the People's Republic of China. The Basic Law of the SAR permits organizations such as the Craft to continue without interference, as long as it does not contravene the law. To this point in time, there has been no interference by the authorities in the operation of the Craft in Hong Kong. Brethren of the Grand Lodge of China, as reconstituted in Taipei, have visited Hong Kong and have been given every courtesy. While many of our former Masonic Halls in the PRC are still standing and have been visited, this was for sentimental reasons and Masonic research purposes only.

Gnostics and Indigenous peoples share vital insights into UFOs and Extraterrestrial knowledge

Arguably, the current path of human self-destruction on Earth has been caused from a context of enforced ignorance about the human identity. Who are we as human beings in this universe; where did we come from; and where should we go, toward a path of mutually fulfilling Human Development?

If humans were actually aware of their true identity in the universe, then, they would not be led into a path of their own self-destruction. On-going cover-ups of the UFO phenomenon and of Extraterrestrials, are apparent attempts among greed-driven elites to enforce existential ignorance. This ignorance, in turn, enables the ability of elites to continue to perpetrate the objective of social control, exploitation, and oppression inclusive of violence, war and genocide.

Gnostics and indigenous people, were able to detect attempts by Manipulative Extraterrestrials to exploit, oppress, and control humanity, because they had made themselves aware of the presence of the operations of Extraterrestrial demonic consciousnesses. Gnostics, were persecuted by the greed-driven organized Christian Establishment, because of their cosmic spirituality. Similarly, indigenous peoples continue to be persecuted by those Earthbound human elites, who allegedly operate as some scholars impute, as scapegoats on behalf of these reported demonic consciousness.

If human beings expect to be able to correct and recover from this path of self-destruction, they must collectively begin to make themselves aware of the human identity in relationship to the broader universe. Humans having allowed themselves to be controlled by greed and by "blind faith" and allegiance to organized religious, to political, and to other elites, have also allowed themselves to be controlled by Manipulative Extraterrestrials.

Humans who remain ignorant of the human identity in relationship to the UFO phenomenon and to Extraterrestrials, will not have attained a higher consciousness that would enable them to "take back our planet Earth". Humans need to critically awaken their consciousnesses to the demonic forces which aim at enslavement, and instead toward a rejuvenated path of empowerment.

Indigenous peoples and the Gnostics, provide critical insights into human and Extraterrestrial contact on Earth, which modern society that is driven by greed continues to deny, alongside of on-going experiences which people have continued to report. Based upon insights from the Gnostics and indigenous cultures, this denial process has allowed Manipulative Extraterrestrials influences to parasitize Western modern society. The result is, a prevailing culture of violence, wars including genocide; worsening Global Warming, and other corresponding paths of human self-destructiveness on Earth.

Based upon Gnostic and Indigenous cultural wisdoms, Manipulative Extraterrestrials constitute a "parasitic demonic skin" on human culture, which manifests itself in social, cultural, political, and economic self-destructiveness. Humans must become aware of this "skin", which manifests into what John Lash in Metahistory refers to as "error". Humans, having made themselves aware of that "skin", can then seek to remove it, in a process that would enable humans to re-assert their spiritual vitality, associated with a path of peace, wisdom, and empathy.

There are two fundamental insights that Gnostics and indigenous peoples provide in particular, that humans in modern society must make themselves aware of, in order correct themselves from a path of their own self-destruction. Understanding these insights require one to have an open mind to illuminating ancient insights brought together from Gnostics and indigenous peoples, which point out that the universe is both physical and spiritual.

With this in mind, the first insight is that Earth is a microcosm of a cosmic God. Humans can in fact observe and experience God, by choosing a living path of peace, wisdom and empathy with each other, and for the Earth, by having reverence for Nature.

John Lash, documents that the Gnostics had revealed that the idea: "God dwells in the Heavens", is a mass-deception strategy which has been perpetrated by Manipulative Extraterrestrials, through organized religion. "Jesus the Saviour" or "Jesus of the Messiah" is also apparently represented by the Gnostics to be a corresponding mass-deception strategy.

Specifically, Gnostics identified "Salvationism" à la Jesus, as an attempt to disempower and divert away humans from having social responsibility for each other and instead into an alleged "Son of God" or a Messiah. In so doing, the apparent idea was for humans to be lulled into a stupor to pray to an "impostor God" to be saved. While this ocrrured Manipulative Extraterrestrials and their allies could then pillage, plunder and loot the planet, as humans prayed to an "impostor God", created in the image of Manipulative Extraterrestrials..

The God presented in organized religion, is in fact an apparent "impostor God" of "blind faith", that has been responsible for so many atrocities that have been committed on Earth in the name of various organized religions.

The second vital insight which Gnostics and indigenous peoples present is that Earth is surrounded by planets in our solar system with intelligent inorganic life forms which visit Earth in manifested UFOs from time to time. Gnostics specifically suggest that these life forms parasitize humans by feeding on negative energies that these life forms apparently instigate on Earth. These fostered "negative energies" apparently provide as a 'food source' for these Manipulative inorganic entities. Supposedly, some of these inorganic Manipulative Extraterrestrials are able to take human form, in order to facilitate their objective to use organized religion and other controlling institutional mechanisms to exploit and then destroy humanity.

Furthermore, because these intelligent life forms are inorganic, and don't rely on environmental features like access to clean water, air, and the stability of ecosystems for quality of survival, these life forms can lead humanity with impunity into a path of self-destruction. Credo Mutwa,LINK . a renowned Zulu elder, had elaborated on African tribal experiences with Manipulative Extraterrestrials, and how African tribal communities detected some Manipulative Extraterrestrials which could shape shift into human form in order to attempt to infiltrate and conquer communities.

The apparent nature of these Manipulative Extraterrestrials is to deceive humanity with impunity, into surrendering the free will that humans have, over their own destiny. Human ignorance about Extraterrestrials only serves those groups which seek to use that ignorance to perpetuate the ability of these Manipulative Extraterrestrials and their reported Earthbound human elite allies to perpetrate a self-serving agenda. This agenda could include denying the importance of vital planetary issues like Global Warming, while maintaining at the same time global war and genocide that is used as negative energy food sources.
